I'm nervous as I enter my dorm room. Talia is blunt. I am confident she will tell me exactly how it is. But to be honest, I'm afraid of what she might say.

I find her sitting by the window. Her shoulders are slumped, and her hair is in messy red waves that cascade down her back. I study her for a moment, unsure how to approach. I've never seen her like this. I feel selfish that I haven't noticed something going on with her.

"Talia?" I slowly approach from behind.

She turns to face me but stays silent. Her eyes are glazed over. They look…strange. She says nothing and returns her attention to the window.

"Are you okay? What's going on?" I ask, placing my hand on her shoulder. Still no response.

My concern turns into frustration, and I shake her harder. Something within her snaps and a shiver runs through her body. She takes a long shuddering breath and looks at me again. The cloudiness in her eyes from a moment ago is gone, leaving them more vibrant and alert.

"Hey, roomie!" she cheerfully says.

My confusion grows. "Talia, are you okay?" My eyes scan down her body, trying to put the pieces together.

"I'm fine," she answers with a small laugh. My world is spinning as doubt settles in my mind that I even saw this strange behavior. If something were wrong, she would tell me, right? I pace back and forth, pushing my frustrations out with each step.

"I need to talk to you about something. Tell me more about Callum." I demand, stopping right in front of her.

"Callum? What about him?"

"How do you guys know each other?" I ask, taking a page out of her playbook and being blunt with my questions.

"You would have known if you would go to the Blood Moon parties," she jokes. "Cal is like a brother to me. We grew up in foster care together."

She walks over to her bed and sits down, patting the space next to her for me to join.

I collapse onto her bed, laying my head against her pillow and staring at the ceiling. "To be honest, I feel like a crap friend," I confess, slowly looking over at her. Guilt brings tears to my eyes. Since we met, I have not asked her about anything. I've been selfish and only worrying about the vision that Rain had.

"Okay, well, now that you mention it," she teases, letting me know she's not upset or offended. She's too good for me. I don’t deserve her.

"I didn't know you grew up in foster care until Magnus told me. Tell me about it?" I ask, sitting up on my elbows, sniffling.

"Yea, we grew up with Magnus and his sister Stephanie," she says, her smile turning sad. I nod, remembering Rain telling me Stephanie died from an illegal bonding ceremony Damian's dad performed. "My parents were killed in a fire when I was seven. I've lived most of my life in the foster care system. It's there that I met Callum.
